Situation
Shell Coordination Centre in Belgium had been established for
more than 30 years. Many of the employees had worked there
for over 15 years. In 2007 the centre was sadly closed and
as a result 44 Shell employees were made redundant.
A number of outplacement providers put forward their proposals
to the management team and local unions. The outcome was
the appointment of two consultancies - Galilei from the Randstad
Group and Pangloss International, the Belgian Arbora partner.
Approach
Pangloss International met with the individuals affected
by the closure of the centre. In order to make sure that
everyone had a full understanding of the services Pangloss
could offer, a number of presentations were given in both
French and Dutch. These ensured that any expectations,
concerns and needs could be communicated appropriately
and effectively. As a result of a successful awareness
session, 24 candidates chose to use the outplacement services
of Pangloss.
As their outplacement provider, Pangloss offered each individual
an unlimited service of one to one sessions with their coach.
These sessions were face-to-face meetings where the candidate
and coach could cover any issues or tasks necessary to help
support and guide the period of transition that the candidate
was going through.
Results
As with any outplacement service, the outcomes are always
different as individuals choose to embark on different
career paths and life choices.
For example two candidates started their own businesses
with the full support of Pangloss along the way.
“Thanks
to Pangloss I have been able to almost immediately start
my own business. They helped me with my business plan and
even with my relationships with banks to help finance my
project."
Equally, five individual’s found new jobs within just
three months. These are just some of the positive outcomes
of the career transition process and as testimonials demonstrated
the positive views of users:
“I am so pleased with the
collaboration with Pangloss. Availability and professionalism
are the key words that describe
my experience with my consultant. Besides, it is great to
be able to benefit from the Pangloss network and to share
new experiences with colleagues"
